In a few weeks, it will be April 1st, the traditional day for playing pranks and jokes on friends, family and colleagues. Take a look around the office. Can you think of a better place for a little good-natured fun? After all, the office is the place most people spend the majority of their daylight hours and in a conservative place, some fun may lighten the mood.
Years ago, an office prank consisted of lowering a desk chair, or fastening a box of paper clips together. With technology so prevalent in the office today, playing a prank using a computer is quite easy. For example, if your office uses Windows, you can set any icon on the desktop to be an automatic shutdown button. Watch your friends repeatedly shut down when trying to start an application. For even more fun, try rotating the screen on a friend's computer. Simply press ctrl+alt+arrow (up, down, left, right). This will change the screen direction you select. Watch as your prey attempts to get the screen back to normal. Impossible - unless they know the secret key strokes. Almost everyone uses an optical mouse. For a bit of bewildering amusement, put a piece of tape on the bottom sensor. With a black marker, color the tape (non-stick side) and watch as they try to figure what's wrong with the mouse. This prank may get you in trouble, but it could be worth it. For around $10, you can get Skype to dial every phone in the office at the same time. Imagine the confusion when every phone in the office rings simultaneously.Beware, however, if your office has a receptionist, she may come after you for this! April Fool's Day aside, wouldn't it be fun to pull one of these pranks on your company's version of Dwight Schrute? Friends may appreciate your sense of humor, just make sure the PTB in the office feel the same way!
