OfficeInvite Your Best Friend to the Office
Like most, you work in an office the majority of the time. And like most of us, you have some workplace friends and acquaintances. But what about your true best friend? We leave for work each day and your best buddy watches as you walk out the door and drive away. When you return home in the evening, your faithful pooch greets you with happy yips and kisses.
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to take your best friend to the office now and then? In 2006, a CNN/Money poll found 75 percent of all dog owners say they would work longer hours if they could bring their dog to work. As employers attempt to create a work-life harmony, bringing your dog to work just seems to make sense. Bring their dog to the office helps balance work and personal life elements. Many employers have expanded their employee benefits to include dogs in the workplace. They know employees are more productive if they don't have to worry about their furry friends. Even a good thing like this should have guidelines and restrictions, however. Employers don't want their offices to become kennels and doggie daycare facilities. Those that allow dogs in the office have created some basic rules for bringing a pet into the office. It may sound like a no-brainer, but all dogs must have current vaccination shots and must stay on a leash at all times. Dogs need to be walked and allowed to relieve themselves during the course of the day. Some employers have added fenced areas just for dogs and a few even provide poop bags at every door to their building. While not every company has a "bring your dog to work policy", many do, including a number of the top Fortune 500 companies. Amazon and Google have allowed dogs in the office for several years. If your company does not include this important perk, start a grassroots movement among fellow employees to convince management to institute a pet policy. Impress upon your employer that employee happiness is indeed a warm puppy!
